Inspirational Gary Vaynerchuk quotes and what I think

Gary Vaynerchuck looking into camera

If you haven’t heard of Gary Vaynerchuk (aka Gary V) then you must not like people telling you to eat dirt if you want to be successful. He’s that type of person. He will say it like it is and doesn’t give a shiitake mushroom and that’s probably the reason why I admire him.

While I appreciate Gary and his ‘in it to win it’ attitude, he does say some things where I just need to take a second.

“There’s no reason to do shit you hate. None.”

I get this, no one should be wasting time doing things they hate just because. But, sometimes life just needs to give you those shit things so that you can learn and find out what it is you do like. Right? Plus, I feel like this sort of contradicts Gary’s infamous ‘eat dirt’ message. When you’re eating dirt, while your aiming for your goal, you’re not exactly doing what you love yet. It takes time!

“Don’t worry about your bank account, worry about how many people will show up to your funeral.”

Yep, makes sense. We should aim to be surrounded with people that admire us and care for us instead of being consumed by money. But money does make the world go round, whether we like to admit it or not. You can’t walk out of your house without having to spend money, unless of course you just go for a walk. But even at that you need shoes, clothes, maybe a jacket etc that costs money. Maybe there’s something I’m missing?

“If you have a full time job, you’re not an entrepreneur.”

I don’t really know if I agree with this. Obviously, if you want to grow a business you need to be 1000% in it and to do that you need to give it every single second you have. But having a full time job teaches you skills and makes you more strategically aware, if you do it right. There’s a time and a place, but we shouldn’t be encouraging people to just leave their jobs, not yet anyway.

“Your legacy is being written by yourself. Make the right decisions.”

I can see how this can be taken too literally. Making the right decisions is hard because you never know what decision is the right one. You kind of need to make some stupid decisions to start learning and growing… otherwise we’ll all just be so damn perfect we’ll have no need for inspirational quotes and people.

“You are not patient enough. Your lack of patience is killing you and your need of things is killing you.”

Patience is definitely one thing I struggle with, I just want results here and now. I am working on it but its taking time and patience… 😉 But, sometimes having that desire of wanting things straight away does work in your favour because you’re not wasting time on something that’s not getting you results. There’s people out there who are too patient and just never go for it because they’re constantly waiting for something to come to them rather than the other way around. Now that’s one thing that’s worse than having a lack of patience. I think so anyway.

I can just imagine Gary V telling me stop making excuses such as the above. To create some balance, here’s some quotes of his that I feel are actually pretty inspirational and motivational.

“It’s easy to dream about it, but much harder to execute it”

.

“Time – the one asset none of us are ever going to get more of.”

.

“Skills are cheap. Passion is priceless.”

.

“You have to understand your own personal DNA. Don’t do things because I do them or Steve Jobs or Mark Cuban tried it. You need to know your personal brand and stay true to it.” (this one is my favourite)

.

“Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, what do I want to do everyday for the rest of my life…do that.”

.

“You didn’t grow up driving…you figured it out.”
